WHAT IS THE EFFECTIVE NOTE TAKING SYSTEM?
The Cornell Method
1. Record: During the lecture / meeting, use the note-taking column to take notes using telegraphic sentences.
2. Question: As soon after the session as possible, formulate questions based on the right hand column. Writing questions helps to clarify meanings, reveal relationships, establish continuity and strengthen memory.
3. Recite: Cover the note taking column with a sheet of paper. Then, looking at the questions or cue words in the question and cue column only, say aloud, in your own words, the facts or ideas indicated by the cue words.
4. Reflect: Reflect on the material by asking yourself questions.
5. Review: Spend some time reviewing your previous notes. If you do, you'll retain a great deal for current use, identify improvements or best practices for future engagement

QUESTIONS
To produce effective lecture notes, we need a good listening skill. Discuss four (4) strategies to improve listening skills.
1) Maintain good eye contact
- Limit any unnecessary distractions, provide the speaker with your undivided attention and make effort to look at them. This provides them with a nonverbal cue that you are interested in what they are saying, which encourage them to continue expressing themselves.
2) Show you are listening
-Using active listening techniques helps to ensure that you correctly understand what is said.
-Paraphrasing back to the speaker what was said, to show understanding.
-Nonverbal cues (nodding, eye contact)
-Verbal affirmations ( "I understand," "I know," "Thank you,")
3) Be patient
- Listen without criticizing the speaker in your mind while they talk. Try to avoid thinking about negative or judgmental comment because this compromise your ability to listen. You also want to listen with an open mind and understand that the person is giving their perspective.
4) Be aware of your body language
- You should mirror the emotions the speaker has. For instance, if their face conveys sadness or joy then your facial expressions and words should also convey similar emotions. Empathizing with the speaker takes concentration and expends energy.
THATS ALL FOR TODAY! THANK YOU!
